For the first ever time, Xiaomi is hosting its own event at the Mobile World Congress. Well, of course, because now Xiaomi’s products sell in Europe too. For MWC 2019 Xiaomi has scheduled its event for February 24, which is the same day when Huawei, Nokia and few other smartphone brands will be launching their products.
Xiaomi is expected to surprise consumers with the launch of not just one but many products. The company is seemingly planning to showcase its foldable phone as well. Of course, now that Samsung has unveiled its Galaxy Fold foldable phone how can Xiaomi not talk about its dual folding foldable phone? At the Mobile World Congress event on February 24, Xiaomi is expected to launch several products like 5G phone, foldable phone, Mi 9, Mi 9 SE, Mi 9 special edition, and possibly some lifestyle products as well. Let’s take a quick look at what Xiaomi has in store for the MWC 2019.
—Xiaomi Mi 9: Xiaomi launched the Mi 9 series of phones in China on Wednesday. The showstopper of the event was the company 2019 flagship phone and the successor of the Mi 8 aka Mi 9. The Mi 9 comes with several next-generation features like – Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, 20W wireless charging support, 48MP rear camera, glass body, fifth-generation screen fingerprint unlock, among other things. In China, the Mi 9 has been launched for 2999 yuan (roughly translates to Rs 32,000). In the home market, the Mi 9 comes in two variants — 6GB RAM/128GB storage and 8GB RAM/128GB storage. We will need to wait for three more days to see which models come to the global market.
—Xiaomi Mi 9 SE: Alongside the Mi 9, Xiaomi also launched the Mi 9 SE and Mi 9 Special Edition. The Mi 9 SE is basically a toned down version of the Mi 9. The smartphone comes with Snapdragon 712 chipset, waterdrop notch, slim bezels, triple rear cameras, and Samsung AMOLED display, but the screen size is smaller. Notably, the Mi 9 SE is the world’s first smartphone to come packed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 712 chipset. The specs of the Mi 9 SE are pretty low end compared to the Mi 9. The Mi 9 SE comes packed with a 5.97-inch Samsung AMOLED display with screen resolution of 2340x1080p. The phone is backed by a smaller 3,070mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. Interestingly, like the Mi 9, the Mi 9 SE comes packed with a 48-megapixel rear main camera, in-display fingerprint sensor, and Android 9 Pie based on MIUI 10. In China, the Mi 9 SE comes in two variants — the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage for CNY 1,999 (roughly translates to Rs 21,200) and the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage for CNY 2,299 (roughly comes around Rs 24,350). The Mi 8 SE is said to launch for the global markets on Feb 24 at Xiaomi’s MWC 2019 event.
—Xiaomi Mi 9 Special Edition: Xiaomi also launched a special edition of the Mi 9 alongside the Mi 9 and the Mi 9 SE on Wednesday in China. Most of the specs of the Mi 9 special edition are the same as the Mi 9 with some changes in the RAM, storage, camera department. The Mi 9 special edition comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The phone comes packed with a camera with f/1.47 aperture and a 7P lens which isn’t available on the Mi 9. Design wise too, the Mi 9 special edition is different from the Mi 9 as it comes with a fake transparent back cover. Xiaomi has launched this special variant of the Mi 9 for CNY 3,999. Xiaomi is expected to launch the Mi 9 special edition for the global markets on Feb 24 at Xiaomi’s MWC 2019 event alongside the Mi 9.
—Mi Mix 3 5G: Xiaomi had previously promised that it will be one of the first smartphone brands in the world to launch a 5G phone. Looks like Xiaomi is living up to its promise. At the MWC 2019 event, Xiaomi will be announcing its first ever 5G phone aka the Mi Mix 5G.
—Dual Folding phone: Xiaomi has confirmed to be working on a foldable smartphone. The company has also confirmed that the foldable phone will be launching this year — the timeline is yet to be revealed. In fact, the company has officially released a video of a Xiaomi executive using the unfinished foldable phone. In the video, the foldable phone from Xiaomi appears with dual folding mechanism. Now that Samsung has showcased its foldable phone at its Unpacked event there are high chances that the Xiaomi will also show its dual folding phone on Feb 24 at the MWC 2019 event.
—Redmi Note 7 global launch: Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Note 7 in China. Considering Xiaomi said global launch of the phone will happen very soon, we expect at the MWC event on Feb 24 Redmi Note 7 global launch may happen. The India launch of the Redmi Note 7 is set for Feb 28.
—Redmi Note 7 Pro: Recent reports suggest that Xiaomi will launch the Redmi Note 7 Pro soon after the Mi 9. Now that Mi 9 has been launched in China already there are high chances that the company may now unveil the Redmi Note 7 Pro with 48MP rear main camera with Sony Sony IMX 586 sensor, unlike the Redmi Note 7 which uses Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 sensor. It is expected that Xiaomi may go for a global launch of the Redmi Note 7 Pro at the MWC event as some rumours suggest that alongside the Note 7 the company may also launch the Pro version in India on Feb 28. Confirmation on the Redmi Note 7 is yet to be revealed by Xiaomi India yet.
