LG may launch a triple-screen smartphone at IFA 2019

LG at IFA 2019

IFA 2019 is just a month away now. Ahead of Europe’s biggest tech event, which will take place between September 6 and September 11, LG Electronics has shared a teaser video of a smartphone that could have as many as three screens.

The 20-second-long video which the company shared on YouTube from its LG Mobile Global account shows a small smartphone-based video game character moving on a screen before a second screen opens up and it hops on to the second three to arrive at its destination. The screen then closes – like it would it case of a foldable-display phone – to bring the viewers to a small screen in the front of the phone that displays the date and time.

LG’s new teaser video has sparked rumours that the Korean electronics giant is planning to launch its next V-series flagship smartphone – the LG V60 ThinQ – which would be the successor to the LG V50 ThinQ that was launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 earlier this year as a response to foldable display smartphones by Samsung and Huawei. Reports by Android Police and ZDNet indicate that the LG V60 ThinQ will rival the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 that is slated to launch later today and that its dual screen attatchment will come with support for 5G connectivity. However, there are no further details available about LG’s next premium budget smartphone yet.

However, The Verge notes that it is possible that LG introduces a second screen accessory to its existing LG V50 ThinQ smartphone. The second accessory that connects with the V50 ThinQ smartphone using a set of pogo pins giving users a dual-screen effect was showed off by the company at MWC 2019. However, the electronics giant made the accessory available in select markets. It is not available in the US yet.

The publication anticipates that the video belongs to a new accessory that would serve as a successor to the second-screen that was along side the LG V50 ThinQ earlier this year.

LG will host an event on September 6, 2019 in Berlin at 10AM ET (7:30PM IST) where the company will make its next big announcement.
